What is art : Art is a creative way for
everyone. By this way artist express his/her creative ideas. It's stimulates
different parts of our brains to make us laugh or incite us to riot, with a
whole gamut of emotions in between. Art gives us a way to be creative and express
ourselves.
According to Tolstoy, art must create a
specific emotional link between artist and audience, one that
"affects" the viewer. Thus, real art requires the capacity to unite
people via communication (clearness and genuineness are therefore crucial
values). This aesthetic conception led Tolstoy to widen the criteria of what
exactly a work of art is.
According to William Rubin, director of
the Museum of Modern Art in New York, "there is no single definition of
art."
Arthur Danto, professor of philosophy at
Columbia University and art critic of The Nation, believes that today "you
can't say something's art or not art anymore. That's all finished." In his
book, After the End of Art Danto argues that after Andy Warhol exhibited
simulacra of shipping cartons for Brillo boxes in 1964, anything could be art.
Warhol made it no longer possible to distinguish something that is art from
something that is not.
