A Feature on Poppy


Poppy is an excellent flower which is a member of flowering plants. The tree of poppy and its flower look very charming. It smells sweet and grows well in the plenty field. The plant of golden poppy has Fern-like leaves and it has single flowers on a long stalk. The leaves of poppy are about 3/4-4" and they are divided into narrow parts on long stalks. Several time poppies are used for symbolic reasons. The soldiers who have died during wartime are remembrance. The flower of poppy has 4 to 6 petals.
The petals may be almost any color. Before blooming, the petals are wrinkled in the bud when blooming finishes, the petals lie flat before falling away. Generally it blooms in open area, green or sandy grades. There is a coil in the center of the flower that is stamen. The pollen of poppy is dark blue to green. It is easily grown. Bees use poppies as a pollen source. The beauty of this flower attracts all most.

Symbolism: Poppy has symbolic meaning. It has been used as a symbol of sleep, peace and death. According the myths of Greek and Roman, poppies were used as offerings to the dead bodies of the soldiers who have died in the Warfield. In Europe the poppy is a common weed and is found in many locations Flanders. In Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, artificial poppies (artificial in Canada, paper in the UK, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand) are worn to commemorate those who died in war. In the United States Wearing of poppies was once a custom and attempts have been made to revive the tradition in the US in connection with Memorial Day

Using: California Indians valued the Golden Poppy as both a source of food and for oil extracted from the plant. It is widely used, for both drugs and food. The milky sap of Golden Poppy's unripe seed pods is the source of opium and several other similar drugs, e.g., morphine, codeine, and heroin. Golden Poppy seed, also called maw seed, is not narcotic and is used as birdseed and for a flavoring or garnish in baking. Golden Poppy seed is also ground for flour. Most species of poppies are attractive and are cultivated as ornamental plants.

Found: Golden poppy is found in California to southern Washington that is east to Texas, Canada, UK, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.
